Obituary of Gloria Theresa Amatetti

Gloria Amatetti departed this world and was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on October 11, 2018 at the age of 85. She passed peacefully with her daughter Katy by her side. Gloria was born Gloria Theresa Marie Paolano in Brooklyn, NY in 1933. She was the youngest of seven siblings born to Italian immigrants from Sicily, Mary and Vincent Paolano. Gloria was the widow of husband Salvatore Amatetti, is survived by three children, Edward, Jacqueline, and Kathryn, and six of seven grandchildren. Gloria now joins Jack her grandson in heaven. Gloria grew up admiring her older sister, Lily, who was thirteen years her senior. They became the closest of siblings out of a shared love for fashion and decorating. After high school, Gloria worked as a secretary for Philip Morris in NYC. She loved her job and the excitement of getting dressed up every day and going into Manhattan. On June 21, 1958, Gloria married Salvatore Amatetti and moved to Roslyn Heights, Long Island in 1964. Gloria had a tremendous enthusiasm for people and adventure and was always on the go with her playful spirit and high energy. She had been a long time avid golfer and tennis player but mostly enjoyed the social aspect, forming relationships and close bonds with friends. She was also a masterful cook, decorator, and always in vogue with her fashion. Gloria was a soccer mom way back before they coined the expression, not to mention a baseball, basketball, cheerleading and swimming mom. She was a member of the PTA and Chairperson for the fashion show fundraisers for many years, as well as a participant. She was active at her Parish Church, Saint Marys, and taught CCD. Gloria also volunteered at St. Francis Hospital in Port Washington on Long Island. Gloria adored and loved playing with her grandchildren, Doug DJ, Ian, Liza, Jack, Molly, Isabel and John. They adored her too! She was fun and animated! She was the type of Grandma that would instigate and provoke to revitalize a hushed room. When the grandkids were little, Gloria literally got down on her hands and knees with them to be on their playing field. She would rally them up with her enthusiasm and warmth, playfully teasing, hugging, and tickling them. Gloria had an abundant social life filled with many good friends. She loved to dance and was quite good! And when she wasnt dancing, playing golf or tennis, or pouring her artistic flare into decorating her home, she would enjoyed a restful rainy afternoon to snuggle on the couch with usually her youngest child, or read a great novel. If it happened to be a downpour with thunder and lightning, all the better! Most importantly, Gloria loved God and her family. Gloria ultimately died of Alzheimers, but even then, she carried her beautiful, fun-filled spirit to the end. She was adored by all who got to know her in each phase of her life.
