Obituary of John T. "Jack" Degnan, Jr.

John T. Degnan, Jr., 99, formerly of North Lake Avenue in Troy, passed away on August 6, 2018 at the Van Rensselaer Manor.
Born on June 27, 1919 in Providence, Rhode Island, John was the son of the late John T., Sr. and Irma (West) Degnan. He was the devoted husband of Marjorie T. (Bernier) Degnan, together they were married for over 72 years.
Jack enlisted in the US Navy during World War II in 1942 and received an honorable discharge for his faithful service in 1946 at the rank of Storekeeper First Class.
An avid Red Sox fan and baseball player, Jack enjoyed playing baseball with the All Troy Athletic Club.
For many years Jack worked as a Sales Manager in the beer brewing industry, retiring from Trojan Beer. Prior to his years at Trojan Beer, he was employed at Fitzgerald Brewery where he met the love of his life, whom he married on May 24, 1946.
Survivors include; the love of his life and beloved wife Marjorie T. Degnan, his loving children; Timothy (Christine) and James (Eileen) Degnan; Grandchildren: Jason (Erin) Degnan, Bridget Degnan, Caitlin (Adam) Csakai, Jeffrey (Beth) Degnan and Great-grandchildren: Jack, Brian, Sophia, Gavin and Max Degnan and Alex Csakai. Jack is also survived by his sister, Sister Frances Patricia Degnan, CSJ, of Latham, Sister in laws; Shirley and Helen Degnan. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by brothers Francis (Carol) Degnan, Richard Degnan, and Robert Degnan and sister, Rosemary (John) Fandl.
Relatives and friends may call 11 a.m. 12 p.m., Thursday August 9th, at Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Avenue, Troy, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m., in the church. Interment will follow the mass in St. Peters Cemetery, Troy.
The family extends their appreciation and special thanks for the loving care provided by the wonderful staff of C2-unit at Van Rensselaer Manor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be directed to Van Rensselaer Manors Residents Activity Center, in memory of John T. Degnan, 85 Bloomingrove Drive, Troy, NY 12180.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the
Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue, Troy, NY 12180.
