Obituary of Edith A. Hughes

Edith A. Hughes, 97, of Van Rensselaer Manor, died on Saturday, February 10, 2018. Born in Troy, NY to the late Fred and Frances Elliott, Edith was a lifelong resident of the city. Edith was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School, class of 1938. She worked for an extended period of time and retired from the Rensselaer County Dept. of Social Services. Besides her parents, Edith was predeceased by her sister, Bertha (Raymond) Wescott. She is survived by her children: John B. (Shirley) Hughes, Mark E. Hughes and Gary F. (Kim) Hughes; her brother, Fred Elliott, Jr.; grandchildren: Mark and Michael Hughes, Nicole (Alejandro) Hughes-Reyes, and Colleen (Patrick) Buff; great grandchildren: Carter, Ella, Griffen and Kendall Buff, Stella, Emmy and Trey Reyes. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 3 PM at the Kingdom Hall, 20 Cooksboro Road, Troy, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. There will be no calling hours. Ediths family wishes to extend special thanks to the nurses and assistants and the entire staff at Van Rensselaer Manor for their continuous care and attention given to Edith during her more than 2 year residence at the Manor.
