Obituary of Carolyn A. Maloney
Lansingburgh, NY-
Carolyn A. Maloney, 87, of Lansingburgh, died peacefully following a brief illness at her home on Friday morning June 19, 2015 with her daughter by her side.
Carolyn was born in Troy on May 17, 1928, a daughter of the late Zera D. Link and Margaret Courcelle. She resided here all of her life and was educated in local schools. She attended St. Peter's Academy and Troy High School. She started her career in retail including Frears Bazaar. Within a 20 year span she first worked for the Cluett and Peabody Company and from there the Norton Company and lastly the NYS Dept. of Taxation and Finance. Until her illness, Carolyn was a proud volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital for over 20 years.
Her life was St. Peter's Church. It was here that she was not only a dedicated, faithful parishioner, but also a member of the bingo committee, crafts committee and taught CCD. Carolyn was also a member of the Elks Club of Troy and a member of Mother Theresa Community in Albany. Carolyn also enjoyed traveling.
Carolyn was the wife of William D. Maloney, Sr., whom she married in St. Peter's Church on November 7, 1969. Their union lasted for 30 years until William died on September 13, 1999.
Survivors include her children: Margaret "Meg" Smith, of Troy, William D. Maloney, Jr., of New Hampshire, and Gail Ruffer, of Troy. Carolyn is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, and her husband, Carolyn was predeceased by her brother Robert E. Wilson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9AM on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at St. Anthony of Padua Shrine Church, 28 State Street, Downtown Troy. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Troy.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 from 4PM until 7PM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) in Lansingburgh.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested contributions to the Peter Young Housing, Industries and Treatment, 40 Eagle Street, Albany, NY 12207.
