JOHN SOBIK Jr.
1938~2015
Sobik, John Jr., formerly of West Moreland, NY passed away peacefully on Tues., May 19, 2015 in Albany, NY at the age of 76. He was born on June 4, 1938 in Rome, New York to John and Mary Karash Sobik.
John, a resident of Sorrento, FL grew up in West Moreland, NY, graduating high school in 1955. In 1960, he and his wife, Beverly (Gray) Sobik, left their New York home and moved to Florida.
Their transportation was a 1940s Pontiac that cost less than $100. He and Beverly built a landmark Central Florida restaurant business, Sobik Subs, (51 restaurants), while raising a family of four.
John loved the outdoors and especially New York's Adirondack Mountains with its vast natural beauty, and memories of his childhood years. He would spend a large part of each year in the Adirondacks at his cabin in Remsen - enjoying time with family, hunting, gardening, and developing recipes for future restaurant concepts.
John Sobik, Jr was preceded in death by his wife Beverly. He is survived by his children Robert Sobik of Eustis, FL; John Sobik III of Sorrento, FL; Deborah Sobik, of Apopka, FL; and Dennis Sobik of Oviedo, FL; his brothers Dennis L. Sobik, of Merritt Island, FL; James Sobik, of Inverness, FL; and Timothy Sobik, of Colorado Springs, CO; his sister Patricia Stedman, of Sherrill, NY; and seven beloved grandchildren.
The Sobik Family will receive relatives and friends from 2PM until 5PM for a memorial gathering & service, which will be held on Saturday, June 27, at the Cultural Center in Oviedo, FL.
