Obituary of Wilbern L. "Bill" Weddle

Wilbern L. Weddle ("Bill"), 91, of Troy, formerly of Mentor, OH, died on Thursday, October 16, 2014 following a brief illness. Born in Kearney, Nebraska, on September 12, 1923, he was a son of the late Lillie (Barlow) and Amos Weddle. Bill was a 1948 graduate of the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy (now Missouri University of Science and Technology). His education was interrupted by World War II, and he served in the Navy as an aviation electronics technician. After graduating from college, he worked as a metallurgical engineer. He was briefly employed by Weirton Steel and TRW, Inc. but spent most of his career at General Electric in Cleveland, OH. He retired from General Electric in 1983. Bill's interests included reading, watching historical documentaries, visiting historic sites, computer programming, and spending time with his family. He was the devoted husband of Iona Colleen (Bailey), whom he married on April 12, 1957, and the loving father of Bonita Weddle of Albany. He is also survived by nieces Barbara Weddle and Beverly Weddle, nephew John Midkiff (Marsha), great niece Stephanie Thompson (Marvin) and numerous cousins and great-great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother Walter, also of Kearney, NE. Bill's family would like to thank the staff of Beechwood senior living community, Samaritan Hospital, Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center, and Community Hospice of Rensselaer County for their many kindnesses and support. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Riverview Funeral Home, Inc. of Troy, NY. At Bill's request, there will be no formal service or calling hours. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family. Contributions in Bill's honor may be made to the Elizabeth Malone Employee Assistance Fund at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center, 2256 Burdett Ave., Troy, NY 12180, or the Missouri University Science and Technology, 112 Campus Support Facility, Rolla, MO 65409. There will be no formal services or viewing, Interment will be Private for the Family at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy, NY.
