Obituary of John W. Smi

Cohoes John W. Smi, 69, of Cohoes and formerly of Schroon Lake, beloved husband of Judy Smi, passed away on October 4, 2014, peacefully at home surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Cohoes, John was the son of the late William and Delphine Smi. He was a graduate of Guilderland High School and a Veteran of the U.S. Army. Before his retirement, John was employed by Altech Specialty Steel for many years. He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and gardening. He loved watching his NY Yankees. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family and his many good friends. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his son, John Smi. John was the beloved father of Ken, Kathy and David Smi and grandfather to Jacob, Christopher and Heather. He was the loving brother of Carol Taber ( late Bill), Pat Elliott, Jackie Dederick (Steve), Bill Smi (Lorraine), Gerry Smi (Sue) and also survived by several nieces and nephews. John was the stepfather to Danny Linen (Kelly) and Donna Linen and Papa to Danny III, DeAnna, Dani Leigh, Dylan and Delanie. He is also survived by his sister in law, Jackie Durrant ( late Tom), and her children: Lorie, Lacie & Tommy. John's family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Stephanie of the Visiting Nurses, and Raymond and Colleen from Rensselaer County Hospice for their compassionate care of John and the kindness and support shown to his family.
