Obituary of Dorothy M. Cottrell
Spiegletown -
On July 1, 2014 we lost our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. Dorothy M. Cottrell, 94, of Spiegletown died on Tuesday evening at Samaritan Hospital in Troy following a brief illness.
Daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Horan) Magee, Dorothy was born in Troy and was a lifelong area resident. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School. Dorothy's most important occupation was being a mother to her children and homemaker for her family. She was employed at Samaritan Hospital in food service for many years as well.
Dorothy was a communicate of the former St. Patrick's Church in Troy and was formerly involved with the Rosary Society and St. Patrick's School PTA. Dorothy loved gardening, crocheting and baking.
Dorothy could always be found in her kitchen, she was very busy taking care of her family as mothers and grandmothers do best. Dorothy was the wife of the late Kenneth Cottrell who died in 1970. Together they shared a union of 30 years. Dorothy is survived by her children; Jeff (MaryAnn) Cottrell of Latham, Chester T. (Sue) Cottrell of Troy, Kenneth A. (Kathleen) Cottrell, Jr. of Spiegletown, Mary (Bob) Hopkins of Fort Ann, Philip E. (Beverly) Cottrell of Troy, Thomas C.
(the late Peggy) Cottrell of Troy, Caroline (Robert) Coward of Rochester, Eloy Edward Cottrell of Troy and Susan (Peter) Judson of Ballston Spa.
Dorothy is survived by her grandchildren; Kenneth, Edward, Tara, Katelyn, Paula, Bonnie Jo, Christopher, Adam, Erin, Lauren, Mary, Sean, Robert, Casey and Peter.
9 Great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her husband and parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her siblings, Constance Kopsco and Gerald Magee.
Funeral Services will commence at 8:15AM on Saturday, July 5, 2014 from the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (Corner of 104th Street) in Lansingburgh, thence to the Church of St. Augustine in Lansingburgh, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9AM. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery on Oakwood Avenue in Troy. Dorothy will be reposing in the Chapel of the Riverview Funeral Home on Friday evening, Independence Day July 4th, 2014. The Family will be present to receive relatives and friends from 4PM until 6PM.
