Obituary
Obituary of Bartolomeo Ben Baccari
Baccari, Bartolomeo "Ben"
On the warm evening of August 18, Ben quietly made his journey home to his many loved ones
waiting to greet him.
He was 90 years young.
Ben, as he liked to be called, was born in Jamaica, Long
Island, New York to Frank and Filomena Baccari of Italy.
He was raised, educated and resided
there until he entered the Army during WW II on November 11, 1942. During the war, he was stationed
throughout the southern United States as a cook and baker.
His last duty station was at Barnes General
Hospital, Vancouver, Washington where he met his loving wife of 58 years, who was also serving in the
Army.
It was there they were married in 1945.
After being discharged, he and his bride, Peggy McCoy,
moved to the Albany area.
He began working as a truck driver for Dorn's Transportation, retiring from
there after 40 years, and moving to Florida for 15 years.
There he took up golf, worked in the pro-shop,
and was a golf ranger at the North Palm Beach Country Club.
Retiring, once again, he moved back to
the Rotterdam area.
Ben and his wife enjoyed traveling, being with their children and grandchildren,
entertaining and visiting with friends. Ben really didn't have any hobbies.
His family, friends, home and
job were the things he cherished most.
He loved and enjoyed every moment.
Ben made many friends
during his journey here on earth.
Everyone loved him, enjoying his personality and dry sense of humor.
He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Ben is survived by his loving daughters Sue (Bill) Karandy-Little of Altamont, and Rosemary (Don) Otis of
Rotterdam, a sister Mildred (Peter) Cecere of Lexington, MA, and a brother Sal (Josephine) Baccari of
Bethpage, NY, 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren along with
several nieces and nephews all of whom feel the loss of this loving and giving man.
He was pre-
deceased by his parents, his beloved wife, Margaret "Peggy" McCoy, who departed this realm in 2003,
and a son Richard Baccari of Arkansas.
He was big brother to the late Jean Spero, Nick and Joseph
Baccari.
He was also pre-deceased by his loving companion Maggie Saccocio of Glens Falls.
Daughters, Sue and Rose, would like to thank the nurses and techs of A5, Doctors Giokas and Salei,
