Obituary of Robert W. Murray
Troy
Robert W. Murray, 81 formerly of 16 Orr Street, Troy, NY, died on Wednesday, March 7 at the Eddy Heritage House in Troy after an extended illness.
Robert was born in Troy, NY to the late Francis A. and Mary M. Nolan Murray and has been a lifelong city resident.
He was a graduate of Troy High School and Siena College where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. Robert also took graduate courses at RPI in Troy.
He was a Mechanical Engineer at the Watervliet Arsenal working in Research and Development with Benet Laboratories for 30 years until his retirement.
Robert was an US Army Veteran, active duty from 1952-54 and also served in the Army Reserves until 1960.
He earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Robert was very active with New York State Right to Life and Citizens Concerned for Human Life (CCHL) as well as Rensselaer County Right to Life.
Robert was a founding member of the Latin Mass Community of St. Joseph's Church in Troy and was a former communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Troy.
Bob was very athletic and enjoyed many activities and sports including: swimming, skiing, bowling, softball, basketball and golf.
Robert is survived by his nine siblings: John T. (Diane) Murray of Ridgecrest, CA, Norine M. Murray of Troy, Francis J. Murray of Troy, M. Bernadette Gettings of Latham, Paul E. (Barbara) Murray of Mechanicville, Donald E. Murray of Troy, Joanne E. (Al) Caron of Troy, Rosemary Lattof of Latham and James V. Murray of Troy.
Besides his parents he was also pre-deceased by his brother Gavin M. Murray and brothers-in-law William P. Gettings and Theodore N. Latoff.
He is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews and 19 great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral Saturday morning at 9:15 from the Riverview Funeral Home, Inc., 218 2nd Avenue Troy and at 10 o'clock from St. Joseph's Church, Troy where a Requiem Mass will be offered.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at the Riverview Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 7 pm.
Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery Troy.
