Obituary of John L. Reilly

John L. Reilly, passed on to heaven at Ellis Hospital on January 2 after a brief illness. John was born to John J. and Helen Kiley Reilly on November 3, 1926 and was a lifelong Schenectady resident. He attended Linclon, Central Park and Mont Pleasant Schools. He enjoyed telling stories of growing up with family and great neighbors on Western Parkway and visits to family in Ballston Spa, Mechanicville and Cohoes. John was a City of Schenectady Fireman for 30 years retiring as a Lieutenant. He had many stories of amazing calls and the other fine firefighters with whom he served. He was a member of the retired Firefighters Association. He also worked for the Schenectady Savings Bank and in his own service business. John was a lifelong member of St. Luke's Church, proudly serving as an usher for many years. He was married to Adelaide Waters Reilly at St. Luke's Church on November 15, 1952. They were faithfully married for 55 years until her passing in 2008. John is survived by his son, Mark C. Reilly, daughter, Norma L. (James) Langille, grandson, James, Jr. (Michelle), granddaughter, Kelly and great granddaughter Mikayla Langille. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Mafalda Reilly, Heleene Fundis, Kathleen Truelove, Shelia Bilka and brothers-in-law Clifford (Jan) Waters and David (Maureen) Waters. He is also survived by cousins Helen McCambridge and Robert (Patricia) Bendon and several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, sisters Helen Jean and Fay Reilly and brother James Reilly. The Family would like to thank their great neighbor families: Voss, Ellis, Van Dyke, Nolte, Sanders as well as the Leoni, Fredrick, Caggianellia and the neighbors from the Charles Street days. Appreciation is also sent for the outstanding skill and attitude of Dr. Marra as well as the Emergency, Operating Room and especially the C-6 staffs of Ellis Hospital, the Schenectady Paramedics and Mohawk Ambulance crew. Gratitude is also sent to Fr. Dominic Isopo, Roy F. Bordeau, Tim Reilly, James Gleason and Fr. Richard Carlino. Funeral Saturday morning, January 9 at 10 am from St. Luke's Church 1235 State Street, Schenectady where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at the Gleason Funeral Home, 730 Union St., Schenectady on Friday from 4 to 7 pm. A brief period of visitation and prayer will begin on Saturday morning at 9 am at the Gleason Funeral Home.
