Obituary of William Albert Bronk
EAST GREENBUSH –
Mr. William Albert Bronk, 82, of East Greenbush, passed away following a brief illness on August 5, 2024.
A son of the late Edwin Nelson Bronk and Marguerite (Waddington) Bronk, William was born on December 8, 1941 in Watervliet, NY.
William, or Bill, as he was known by family and friends, received his education from Troy Public School #1, Troy High School, class of 1960, Hudson Valley Community College in Troy and also the College of St. Rose in Albany.
Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force in July 1962. During his time in the Air Force, he was part of the 96th Supply Squadron at Dyess AFB in Abilene, TX, and also the 405th (6200th) Supply Squadron at Clark AFB in the Philippines. Bill received an honorable discharge for his faithful service in June 1966.
Mr. Bronk was previously employed by the Union National Bank, Troy, NY and the Watervliet Arsenal, Watervliet, NY. He retired as Assistant Vice President from Fleet Bank (formerly State Bank of Albany). While at the bank, Bill served in various positions, including Field Audit Supervisor, Business Development Officer, Commercial Equipment Leasing Officer and ATM Program Manager. He also served as Senior Internal Auditor at NYS Office of State Comptroller and the Department of Transportation. While at DOT, Bill received the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence. He also was a contract Management Specialist at the NYS Office of Children & Family Services. Bill was certified as a Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) by the Association of Government Accountants.
Bill held many memberships throughout his life including the former Grace Methodist Church in Troy, NY and currently the First United Methodist Church of East Greenbush, NY. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, a 33-year member of Capital Community Voices. He served as former Assistant Treasurer and a Board Member of Hudson Valley Girl Scout Council. Other organizations include: the Association of Government Accounts, the Capital District Genealogical Society, the Greene County Historical Society, The Palatines to America and the Schenectady County Historical Society.
Bill had a lifelong love of choral music. He was a member of the Grace Methodist Church Choir Troy, NY and the choir of the First United Methodist Church of East Greenbush. He also performed with the Troy High School Glee Club, the Clark Air Base Men of Note, the Capital Community Voices and the Columbia Festival Chorale. Bill loved playing his guitar and singing at church, coffee houses and local nursing and adult homes. Other interests include a lifelong interest in genealogy and researching the Bronk Family history. He also was an avid collector of U.S. Stamps and enjoyed writing music related articles for Goldmine Magazine.
Survivors include two sons: Eric W. (Linda) Bronk of Gilboa, NY and Marshall T. (Sheila) Bronk of Sacramento, CA. His grandchildren: Chelsea Marie Bronk, Alexander Jacob Bronk, Brando Stephen Bronk and Paisley Shea Bronk. Bill is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Harold (Mary Ann) Bronk of Troy, NY, and two surviving sisters-in-law: Linda Bronk of Troy and Carol Bronk of Troy, NY.
Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by two sisters: Ruth Ann Stewart and Susan McCullough as well as four brothers: James Bronk, Walter F. (Rose) Bronk, Charles M. Bronk and recently, Raymond J. Bronk, Sr.
Relatives and Friends are invited to call from 4-7PM on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 in the Chapel of the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) Troy, NY 12180. Funeral Services will commence at 11 o’clock Thursday Morning, August 15, 2024 from the Riverview Funeral Home with Pastor David Haase, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy.
