Obituary of Gerard J. LaBarge, Jr.
Lansingburgh-
Gerard J. LaBarge, Jr., 81, of Troy, passed peacefully with family at his side on August 18, 2014.
Gerard was born May 11, 1933 to the late Gerard J. and Mary E. (Crane) LaBarge in Boston, Massachusetts.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. in 1951 at the age of 17.
He was schooled as a High-Speed Radio Operator in San Diego.
Gerard served with the 1st Division 5th Marine Regiment in several combat missions in Korea. Following his honorable discharge in 1954, Gerard worked as a telegrapher for the Boston and Maine Railroad.
He then settled in Schenectady, NY where he began his career in banking.
He worked for several banks before retiring from Key Bank after 42 years.
In his retirement, Gerard was an active member of several veteran organizations. He was a proud member of the Marine Corps League where he was a Past-Commandant of the Troy Detachment as well as a past adjutant of the state organization.
Gerard was also a member of the Veterans of Lansingburgh, Korean War Veterans, Disabled American Veterans, and Vice-Chairman of the Rensselaer County Honor a Vet program.
Gerard leaves behind his beloved wife, Adele C. (Wubbenhorst) LaBarge. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Elizabeth (LaBarge) Daudelin of Woonsocket, Rhode Island; his son Christopher J. and his wife Heather R. (Osterhout) LaBarge of Watervliet; his daughter Arlene A. (Batchelder) and her husband John McConnell of Union Beach, N.J.; his son David M. and his wife Sandy (Maloney) Batchelder of Troy; his daughter Michelle C. (Batchelder) and her husband Joel McClellan of Troy; and his son Matthew Batchelder of Troy.
He was blessed with nine grandchildren; Jennifer, Adam, Catherine, David, Robert, Melanie, Spencer, Olivia, Nathan; and three great grandchildren; Hunter, Madeline, and Gwendolyn.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Paul LaBarge of Boston, Massachusetts.
Funeral Services will commence at 12 Noon on Thursday, August 21st from the Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) in Lansingburgh. Interment with military honors will follow in the Gerald B.H. Solomon - Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation the morning of the funeral beginning at 10AM until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Gerard's memory to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County; 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY
